The NRA was once a moderate institution

The NRA was once a moderate institution that focused on firearms sports and education. I joined the NRA not realizing extremists had killed that vision and created a monster that considers every American and human value subservient to its will.

This short read by the Washington Post relates the NRA’s founding vision and it’s takeover by extremists, who turned it into what it is today.

The NRA is an Extremist Group and Needs to Be Destroyed

As a former Life Member of the NRA and a former Army Infantryman and Deputy Sheriff, I’ve spent years with firearms, carrying them and using them, and I know firsthand what they’re capable of. When I joined the NRA as a young man, I quickly realized that the NRA was becoming radicalized, turning away from a group dedicated to education and sports and becoming an extremist group dedicated to preserving itself and its twisted vision of ideal America. I remember getting my first voting guide for the NRA board and realizing that everyone I could vote for was an extremist. In the many years since that time, the NRA has become more openly hateful and used ever more extreme propaganda to convince whites their identity, safety, and way of life is under attack. The NRA’s rhetoric has focused on encouraging whites to buy more firearms before they’re banned and to carry those firearms everywhere, and to vote only for politicians who commit to making firearms easily available to everyone and to protecting their identity and way of life.

After the latest school shooting made possible by the NRA and its supporters and politicians, Dallas Sportscaster Dale Hansen speaks of the truth behind the right’s inaction on gun reform and aggression against those who push for reform, even attacking the victims of gun violence.

If we’re to make further progress as a nation, the United States must destroy the NRA and other extremist groups. We’re facing an existential threat from far right groups aligned with Russia and white nationalism and the NRA has publicly aligned itself with these groups. As citizens, this fight is ours. We know we cannot count on the current GOP to help us defeat these threats. We must stand up and take them on wherever we find them.

We Know Why Men Start Fires

It’s time to stop sympathetically profiling white supremacists. We know why men start fires. We know what these people want.

This is worth reading and sharing with anyone it might affect. This is a war for the soul and future of human civilization. We must all take sides and we must treat those who oppose us as our enemies.

Harriet Tubman – Badass Woman and Enduring Symbol of Greatness

Harriet Tubman is a true badass woman and enduring symbol of greatness.

The Washington Post notes that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has apparently decided not to replace the portrait of slave owner and mass murderer Andrew Jackson with that of the great Harriet Tubman on the US $20 bill. Mnuchin and the rest of this racist administration are part of a dying ideology, and great human beings like Tubman will overcome this hatred and have the last word.

The “Very Fine People” at the Charlottesville Rally

On 12 August 2017, Nazis and white nationalists held a Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, VA to protest the removal of a Confederate statue. Donald Trump refused to condemn these protesters, even after a counter-protester was murdered by a white nationalist, and he went further by asserting that there were “very fine people” among those far right protesters.

The New York Times has collected the words and ideals of the “very fine people” representing Nazism and white nationalism at the 12 August 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, VA.

Here’s what some of those very fine people have to say about their ideals and motives:

  • The main organizer of the rally, Jason Kessler of Virginia: “Our entire country would be better off if the South had won the Civil War.”
  • Former KKK leader David Duke of Louisiana: “This is only the beginning, believe me – Whitey is done being pushed around by Marxist/Anarchist/Leftist anti-White scum, time for pushback!”
  • League of the South President Michael Hill of Alabama said: “There is a war against you, white men and white women, on the streets of our cities.” He sounds a lot like the fuhrer of the Illinois Nazis in the original Blues Brothers movie – He’s just as ridiculous as those Illinois Nazis but a lot more dangerous.
  • National Socialist Movement leader Jeff Schoep of Michigan said: “We are the front line of the fight for the white race. We are the shock troops for the white race.”

These are the same very fine people who, with help from Russia and the GOP, got Trump elected. With the election of a racist President with fascist leanings and his far right administration, they have the confidence to take off their hoods and protest openly, knowing the administration has their back.

How Propagandists Feed the Right Wing Conspiracy Machine

New York Times – A Pro-Trump Conspiracy Theorist, a False Tweet and a Runaway Story

The New York Times presents the case of a well-known right-wing propagandist who generates false stories that are taken up by Breitbart, Limbaugh, and the rest of the hate machine and used to cast doubt on facts harmful to the right, in this case sowing doubt about Comey’s testimony on Trump’s obstruction of justice.

This fits the definition of treason to me. These propagandists are working for Russia, whether paid by Putin or not. As with Trump, the GOP led government is unlikely to take action against these traitors because it helps keep them in power. Party over Country is the GOP mantra.

We have an obligation to speak truth of the dead

This Slacktivist post  is excellent food for thought. It’s appropriate to assess the impact of a life once it’s over. In Ailes’ case, this could start with a list of his evil deeds against individuals and generations with his sexual predation and use of fear to bring our nation to the brink of destruction.

If I had a super power, it would be to fly.

This child is a Syrian refugee. He and his people are suffering. Life requires that we help them any way we can.

“If I had a super power, it would be to fly. I would tell other children from around the world to come and play with me and my sisters, and to drink tea together!” – Mohamad, a Syrian refugee in Lebanon
